Karl Lagerfeld’s latest fashion face: ‘Babel’ star Rinko Kikuchi

Babel Oscar-nominated supporting actress Rinko Kikuchi is officially a new fashion face of Chanel.

Her ads for Chanel’s 2007 cruise collection of handbags are due to appear in the November fashion rag mags.

Rinko, who has earned raves for her role in Babel, joins famous CC faces Nicole Kidman, Diane Kruger, French rock singer (and Johnny Depp’s leading lady in life) Vanessa Paradis, and actress Keira Knightley.

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld shot these ads himself in Paris in June and he was reportedly captivated by Rinko’s “Manga character” look and her ability to look like a child one minute and a mysterious woman the next.

‘La Vie en Rose’ star Marion Cotillard to wear Chanel at Hollywood Awards

French actress Marion Cotillard, 30, who gave an amazing performance as the tragic French chanteuse Edith Piaf in “La Vie En Rose,”  is no stranger to awards.

She’s already won  film festival honors including the 2004 Chopard Trophy for Female Revelation at Cannes, a Best Supporting Actress Cesar (Think the French Oscars) in 2005 and the Breakthrough Performance Award at this 2008 Palm Springs Film Festival.

Tonight she’ll pick up the Best Actress of the Year honors at the Hollywood Awards; sure to be the first of many such trophies during  awards season. We fully expect her to be nominated for an Oscar as well.

Tonight Marion will  wear a Chanel creation. Over lunch at the Four Seasons today, the denim-clad, make-up free beauty noted a similarity between Coco and Edith: “They were both very strong, powerful women.”
