Mexico earthquake measures 6.5, precedes Japan’s 7.1 that closed 2 nuclear plants

An earthquake measuring 6.5 rocked Mexico, just a little more than an hour before a 7.1 aftershock hit Japan and caused the closing of two more nuclear reactors. Two plants in Oginawa and in Aomori Prefecture were knocked out. Authorities insist there is no threat of a radiation leaks.

The Mexican earthquake was deep underground, so no damage has been reported. The US Geological Survey puts the depth of the quake at 104 miles and its epicenter in the state of Veracruz, about 360 miles from Mexico City, where buildings rocked for several minutes.
