Vanessa Hudgens — always a red carpet favorite — stole the fashion show at the Sucker Punch premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday (Mar. 23)
Wearing a shimmery Jenny Packham dove gray chiffon gown with silver detailing, Vanessa turned to give the photographers a rear view, showing off her bare back. Love this dress — with clean lines, slightly enhanced shoulders — because it has the feel of a classic 30′s Hollywood gown that might have been worn by Clark Gable‘s wife, Carole Lombard. Who? Wiki her.
Vanessa plays Baby Doll in Zack Snyder’s action-packed fantasy-musical film, which opens on March 25.Her costars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish and Jena Malone looked hot (keep reading to see their outfits) but Vanessa really sizzled. But that’s just our opinion. Vote below!
Tom Julian, Oscar.com’s style expert caught up with Nadja Swarovski at the Peninsula this week, where she has been dressing and accessorizing actresses for the Academy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 27). He also got a look at the special gift that Swarovski is giving to the nominees. limited edition and finished. Swarovski and Atelier Swarovski showcased their newest collections and collaborations as well as over 300 unique handbags and jewelry pieces brought in especially for the Academy Awards.
We’re not naming names but the Swarovski suite was besieged by Hollywood’s top stylists this week grabbing dresses, handbags and accessories for the actresses on the red carpet. And Nadja also did an instore appearance on Thursday at Maxfield on Melrose for her book, “Swarovski Crystal Palace Book: The Art of Light and Crystal. ”
Here’s Tom’s talk with Nadja.
TJ: What are your special offerings this year for the ten female Oscar nominees, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, Jennifer Lawrence, Hailey Steinfeld, Annette Bening, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Williams and Jacki Weaver?
NS: A limited edition evening clutch with an inlaid diamond crystal chunky clasp, a new Swarovski fragrance and Swarovski sunglasses
TJ: What’s next for Swarovski?
Once upon a time, designers dreamed of dressing an Oscar-going actress so they could be a part of fashion history. And during the ’90s, the dream came true if the designer seduced the actress like a rich lover: flowers, expensive gifts, private jet to Paris, front row seats at your fashion show, private fittings, and a discreet under-the-table check for $100-200,000. Eh, voila. She was all yours.
But in 2011, dressing an Oscar nominee or presenter is a lot more expensive ($4-5 million dollar deals), way more complicated (outside agencies broker alliances, control dresses) and far more discriminating for both big and small designers. (A-listers only, please). And all these factors, insiders say, are making real Red Carpet Moments very scarce and the Oscar red carpet rather boring.
Are you already preparing for your Oscar 2011 viewing party? Are you eternally obsessed with Oscar fashion, gowns and jewels? Wish you could afford some of the jewelry you will see that night?
Then you might want to Tivo the two-hour red carpet HSN special with Carol Brodie, formerly communications director for Harry Winston, who has all the inside scoop on red carpet jewelry. During her years with Winston, she adorned countless stars with glittering diamonds and jewels. She put those rare pumpkin colored diamond earrings on Halle Berry when she won on Oscar for Monster’s Ball and a diamond choker on Gwyneth Paltrow when she won for Shakespeare in Love”
She’ll be selling her own line of jewelry, Rarities, on Feb. 27th, from 5-7 P.M. on HSN.
The Screen Actors Guild awards are over, everyone won whom we thought would win, we’ve picked our fashion favorites and its time to move on. But first, lets flashback to Saturday night, to a fabulous party when everyone was still a winner.
Entertainment Weekly had their pre-SAG party — sponsored by L’Oreal — at the famous Chateau Marmont Saturday night. On the rather short red carpet running up the driveway to the historic hotel, “Glee” star Jenna Ushkowitz told us about recently taking up running. “I was totally Yoga Girl but I just started running and doing Runyon Canyon and I love it.”
Hollywood stylist Rachel Zoe (“The Rachel Zoe Project”) sure didn’t look pregnant at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards on Monday (Oct 18).
But in fact, she’s actually 4 1/2 months pregnant. And she’s having a boy. Zoe, 39, has declined to publicly discuss her pregnancy. And to be honest, we checked her still extremely thin figure out pretty closely on the red carpet. And we were positive that it was not the body of a pregnant woman. Just shows what we know about pregnancy in the world of high fashion. Rachel just looked like she’d eaten a meal. A very small meal.
Natalie Portman is one step closer to an Oscar! She picked up the Best Actress awards Friday (Jan. 14) at the Critics Choice Awards for her prima ballerina part in “Black Swan.” And she’s up for another round on Sunday night (Jan. 16) at the Golden Globes.
Backstage, the pregnant star posed for photos with her huge crystal Best Actress award and talked about the similarities between actresses and ballerinas.
“I think one of the interesting things, and because I started so young acting, you get used to seeing yourself out of your body. I think dancers have that a lot with all the mirrors. They’re used to seeing the reflection of themselves rather than being themselves. I think that happened to the character a lot where she sees herself out of her body in her life. It’s a struggle as an actor to remain rooted and anchored to yourself while being so aware of what you look like to other people.” ”
Mila Kunis talked about how she got so skinny for her role as a ballerina in “Black Swan” at the Critics Choice red carpet Friday (Jan. 14) in Hollywood.
First off, there was a lot of training, dancing, even weights. And not eating. But it wasn’t so bad. “After a while, your stomach shrinks,” explained Mila, which is probably no surprise to anyone who’s ever seriously dieted before. But she doesn’t advise young girls to follow her lead.
“Don’t do what I did,” she warns. “I did it as healthy as i could but it was still pretty drastic.”
