The Fighter

What’s in ‘Fighter’ David O. Russell’s pocket on Oscar nite?

What will The Fighter director David O. Russell put in his pocket on Oscar night? Not an acceptance speech. Hopefully, he’s got that memorized already.

A good luck $2 bill signed by his flock of female friends including Sherry Lansing, Angela Bassett, Connie Stevens, Joely Fisher, Brenda Vaccaro, Raquel Welch, Frances Fisher, Mimi Rogers, and Sally Kellerman.

Lansing held the special Valentine’s Day Luncheon at Mr. Chow’s — sponsored by L’Oreal Paris — for Russell, the director of the Oscar nominated film, “The Fighter,” to congratulate him on his many Fighter awards so far and to wish him good luck at the upcoming Academy Awards for his seven Oscar nods. the film received nominations for Best Director, Best Editing, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale) and two Best Supporting Actress (Melissa Leo and Amy Adams) and Best Screenplay.

Lansing gave a heartfelt toast dedicated to David and  his film to kick off the luncheon, also thanking L’Oreal Paris for hosting the event. Guests sipped Rose Moet & Chandon champagne and dined on all of Mr. Chow’s signature delicacies. Thankfully, L’Oreal had put Infallible lipsticks (the lipstick guaranteed to stay on for hours and hours) next to the chocolate truffles at everyone’s plaid setting. Even David got his own Infallible shade.

At the end of the luncheon, all of the women — including several powerful producers and studio honchas — and signed a two dollar bill and gave it to David for good luck at the Academy Awards on Feb. 27. To see more photos, keep reading
